Ed Canty
Senior Consultant, CFO

edEd has extensive experience in the software, communications and venture capital areas with both public and private companies. He has been a consulting Chief Financial Officer, concentrating on business planning and financing startup companies, since 1995.

Ed served as General Partner and Chief Financial Officer of BayCom Partners, L.P. where he was responsible for all financial, accounting, and administrative functions for this profitable, privately held radio broadcasting group. Prior to joining BayCom Partners, Ed was a member of the Board of Directors, and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer at Teknowledge, Inc., a pioneer company in the commercialization of expert systems software.



Some of Ed’s accomplishments include the following:

  • Software Company - CFO of a $30 million international software company; oversaw the successful conversion from multiple accounting systems to an ERP system with integrated consolidation, foreign currency translation, inter-company transactions, and multi-dimensional reporting for legal entities, business units, product lines; established GAAP-based revenue recognition policy; established other key GAAP policies including FAS 52 policy for consolidation and foreign currency transactions; and initiated SOX compliance program.
  • Venture Funds - CFO for a number of venture funds including setting up a new fund-of-funds accounting and control system.
  • Venture Backed Companies - CFO for a number of venture-backed companies in the software, services and medical devices industries.
  • Liquidations - led a number of corporate liquidation and shut-down projects California Assignment for Benefit of Creditors statute and a quiet liquidation of a $100 million company—these activities included disposal of physical assets and auctions of intellectual property.
  • Private Equity - prior experience as CFO and partner in a private equity firm; officer of an investment banking firm including experience in private placements of debt and equity securities for clients; and as CFO of a Silicon Valley software firm, led a successful IPO leading to a listing on NASDAQ.
  • Broadcasting - hands on experience in sourcing, analyzing, valuing, structuring, negotiating and financing acquisitions of operating companies in the broadcasting industry.

Ed has a Masters Degree from the University of Chicago, where he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He attended Northwestern University Business School. An active member of the community, Ed was involved in his local public school district for 12 years and the AYSO Soccer League for 14 years.
